In June 2015 the children discovered some caterpillars in the nursery garden. They became fascinated with the little creatures and were hunting for them day in day out. Eventually we gathered a few in our butterfly tent and ensured that they felt comfortable with plenty of green leaves and water. They soon became “big fat caterpillars” and built cocoons. As it happens our caterpillars turned to moths and we watched them fly away one afternoon in the garden.
This topic really engaged the children over nearly 1.5 months. Lots of discussions, books, art works were based on the caterpillars not to mention of course our story time – The very Hungry Caterpillars and our daily Makaton signs.
